About Soma Circuit
What is a nervous system regulation app?
A nervous system regulation app is a self-guided wellbeing tool that helps you notice how your body is responding and practise ways of meeting that state. It may use guided breathing, grounding, movement, sound, muscle relaxation or attention exercises.
Regulation does not mean staying calm all the time. It means having enough flexibility to respond to what the moment asks and find your way back afterwards. “Nervous system regulation app” is not a formal clinical category, and apps in this space vary widely. They are not automatically therapy, medical devices or proven treatments.
What is Soma Circuit?
Soma Circuit is a personalised, body-first nervous system regulation app. When you open it, you choose the state that feels closest — Overwhelmed, Steady or Flat — and receive a short audio-guided practice matched to that state and your progress.
Its personalised 10-level program includes 38+ practices from a library of 61, using breath, grounding, sound, attention and gentle movement. It is designed for real life: no Soma Circuit account, no ads, no leaderboards and no streaks. The aim is not permanent calm. It is more capacity to notice, recover and return to what matters.
Is Soma Circuit a therapy app?
No. Soma Circuit is an educational wellness tool, not therapy. It does not provide diagnosis, assessment, treatment, medical advice or crisis support, and it is not a medical device.
A guided app cannot listen, understand your history or respond to risk in the way a qualified professional can. Soma Circuit may be used on its own for everyday wellbeing or alongside professional care, but it should not replace therapy or delay seeking help when you need it.
Who created Soma Circuit?
Soma Circuit was created by Gerry Bronn, an endorsed clinical psychologist registered with AHPRA and an executive coach based in Byron Bay, Australia.
His background includes more than a decade of clinical practice, work with leaders and founders, training in somatic approaches, and more than 10,000 hours of yoga and meditation practice and teaching. Soma Circuit grew from short audio practices he originally made for clients to use between sessions — after an appointment, before a difficult meeting or during a wakeful night.
What is polyvagal-informed practice?
“Polyvagal-informed” means Soma Circuit uses ideas from Polyvagal Theory as a practical lens for noticing broad patterns: feeling mobilised or overwhelmed, present and steady, or withdrawn and flat. The app then offers a practice intended to meet the state you are actually in.
The word “informed” is deliberate. Polyvagal Theory can give people useful language for their experience, but several of its specific anatomical and evolutionary claims are disputed. Soma Circuit does not present its three states as a diagnosis or a literal, proven map of the autonomic nervous system. The approach also draws on broader work in psychology, physiology, mindfulness, movement and somatic practice.
How long are Soma Circuit practices?
Soma Circuit practices range from about two to twelve minutes, with many introductory exercises lasting between two and five minutes.
The audio follows the natural pace of the breath, movement or exercise rather than rushing to meet a countdown. Practices are short enough to use before a meeting, in the car park, on the train or while settling for bed. You can stop at any time if a practice feels uncomfortable or unhelpful.
Can I use Soma Circuit alongside therapy?
Yes. Soma Circuit was designed to be useful between therapy sessions as a short, self-guided way to practise noticing and responding to your state.
It does not create a therapeutic relationship, send practice data to your clinician or provide a clinician dashboard. You may find it helpful to discuss the practices with your therapist, especially if you are working with trauma, dissociation or ongoing mental health symptoms. If a practice increases distress, stop and contact your usual professional or someone you trust.
Is Soma Circuit suitable for stress and anxiety?
Soma Circuit is designed to support everyday stress and feelings of anxiety or overwhelm. Its breathing, grounding, mindfulness, movement and muscle-relaxation practices may help some people manage how stress feels in the body.
It is not offered as a treatment for an anxiety disorder, and individual experiences differ. Focusing on breathing or body sensations can sometimes increase distress, so start gently and stop if you feel worse. If anxiety is persistent, worsening or affecting daily life, speak with a qualified health professional. If you may be in danger or need urgent help, contact local emergency or crisis support.
